Revan vs Thrawn. « Thread Started on Jan 19, 2009, 8:40pm »
Reading the Star Wars tatitian thread, I've been thinking again about the interesting similarities between the characters of Revan and Thrawn. To review:
Both are considered great tactitians and/or strategists.
Both are known for trying to limit collateral damage.
Both may have taken power to try to prepare the Galaxy or Republic for an outside threat (Sith, Vong).
Both may have been overreliant on a single secret base (Wayland for Thrawn, the Star Forge for Revan), though this is disputable.
Both were defeated due to treachery from a subordinate during the heat of battle (Malak, the Noghiri bodyguard).
So I'm wondering weather anyone else has noticed the similarities between the two characters, and weather anyone thinks that the character of Revan might have been influenced by Thrawn.
Also, if the two were fighting against eachother with equal forces, who would win?
"We grew stronger while you rested in your cradle of power, believing your people were safe...protected. You were trusted to lead the Republic but you were deceived, as our powers over the dark side had blinded you. You assumed no force could challenge you and now...finally, we have returned. You were deceived. And now, your Republic shall fall."
Anyway, my money is on Revan, simply because of the Force.
I voted for Thrawn probably wins, and it was only "probably" because of the Force.
Really, its said what a great tacitian or strategist Revan was, but I don't think we know many details, since their's not much on Revan outside of KOTOR. Also, Thrawn dealt with Force users on multiple occasions. He was able to manipulate C'both (poorly though, and C'both was apparently insane), and he was able to threaten Luke and Leia on a number of occasions. He also, of course, beat the original C'both in Outbound Flight with inferior forces.
Thrawn would expect Revan's advantage and would take measures to counter it. Also, Jedi/Sith precognition is not infallible, and Revan has not to my knowledge demonstrated the abillity to actually damage ships with the Force. His advantage in battle would be limited, and easily countered. Thrawn's advantages are less predictable, and less easilly countered.

Except Thrawn was apparently exceptionally skilled at countering and manipulating Force-users, be they a force of Jedi during Outbound Flight, his Clone during the Civil War, or the Skywalker twins during the same period.
Of course, Revan has more than just the Force. He was also supposed to be a skilled commander. Don't know if he was Thrawn's equal, though.

It probably comes down to tactical/strategical ability, not Force use. Thrawn repeatedly managed to counter Force users in battle. Unless Revan is strong enough to simply destroy star ships with the Force, or the two are evenly matched in terms of tactical/strategic skill, it won't change much.
